Home Based Entrepreneurs – Create Your Own Master Mind Group
I told you yesterday how as a budding internet marketer and Home Based Entrepreneur, I suffered from information overload, and I shared with you 5 strategies that I adopted to combat its insidious effects.
The most important of these, in my opinion, is the concept of adopting a Master Mind Group of individuals whose teachings resonate with you, and who can help you in the specific areas of your business that you need the most help with, right now.
I was first introduced to the concept of the Master Mind Group over 20 years ago when I read “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, in which he defined the “Master Mind” as “a coordination of knowledge and effort, in a spirit of harmony, between two or more people, for the attainment of a definite purpose.”
Napoleon Hill gives a number examples of how some of the greatest business names throughout history, such as Andrew Carnegie, Henry Ford, and Thomas Edison had achieved unprecedented levels of success by employing the principle of the Master Mind Group
I think it was also Napoleon Hill who stated that your net worth will closely resemble the average of the 5 people with whom you most associate yourself with.
Put another way, “your network will determine your net worth”, so you should only take advice from people who demonstrate the skills and knowledge that you require to move you towards your definite purpose in life.
So how do you find the people to form your own Master Mind Group? Prior to the internet age it would have been difficult for you find the right kind of people with which to form your Master Mind Group, such as experts in internet marketing, personal development and business finance.
However, thanks to the internet these people are at your finger tips. Self made millionaire businessmen such as Mike Dillard, Eben Pagen, Robert Kiyosaki, and John Assaraf are just a Google search away.
So my challenge to you today, is to seek out the people who can help you move forward in your business right now and start forming your own personal Master Mind Group immediately.
It doesn’t matter whether you ever get to meet these people personally or not, their teachings are widely available on the internet, and your net worth will grow as a result of your association with them. Once you have your group of your chosen mentors in place, listen to what they have to say to the exclusion of all other sources of information (this will help with information overload).
By all means review your list of mentors on a regular basis and be very discerning with the information that you receive, but the key here is focus, so that you can cut through all the clutter that we experience on the internet on a day to basis.
In future posts I will talk about some of the mentors that I have personally adopted for the specific areas in which I need to grow, in order to achieve my goal of becoming a successful Home Based Entrepreneur.
In the meantime remember that leaders surround themselves with the smartest and sharpest people in their industries. Why not start to assemble your own Master Mind Group today?
Until next time

Entrepreneurs in High Technology $3.98 The ingredients for success in starting and developing a technology-based company aren’t obvious. Why, for example, did Digital Equipment Corporation succeed–and indeed become one of the most successful high-tech corporations in the world–while dozens of other companies with similar beginnings fail? It is a question that demands careful consideration by anyone setting up a new company or who is interested in starting one. In Entrepreneurs in High Technology, Edward Roberts, a Professor at the MIT Sloan School of Management, offers entrepreneurs a goldmine of information on starting, financing, and expanding a high-tech firm. His book reveals the results of research conducted over twenty-five years on several hundred high-tech firms, and it reflects the insights of the author’s own first-hand experience as a company founder, director, and venture capitalist. Focusing on firms in the Greater Boston area–many of which have had technological links with MIT–Roberts traces the origins and the evolution of the high-technology failures and successes. He examines the work experience and family backgrounds of successful technical entrepreneurs, their sources of funding, and the ways they respond to the challenge of business growth. He compares the track records of firms with multi-founder teams and firms with individual founders, contrasts the performance of consulting firms and research-and-development contractors against companies that start out with a product, identifies the factors that limit an enterprise’s ability to raise outside capital, and explores the critical influence of marketing orientation on successful companies. In a penetrating analysis of highly successful ventures, the author reveals the importance of strategically transforming the company to a market-oriented focus, and he examines the widespread tendency, even among the most successful high-tech firms, to displace the founder before the company achieves "super-success." For anyone planning to start a technology-based enterprise, Entrepreneurs in High Technology is essential reading–an invaluable preview of the financial, organizational, and marketing issues that confront every new high-tech venture. For business and technology watchers, it is an informative account of the promise and the perils entailed in bringing innovative ideas to the marketplace. |

Gender and Home-Based Employment $139.48 Gender often influences the type of occupation that individuals choose, as well as the way they work and the outcomes of that work. The chapters provide a range of gender considerations from the perspectives of the workers and the workers’ families, with emphasis on either the workers, the family, or the work/business. The first chapter provides an overview of the subjects being covered and defines several of the concepts used. The range of viewpoints is extensive: Chapter 2 considers home-based employment from a global perspective, while Chapter 8 narrows the focus to one particular location and type of home-based worker. Chapters 3, 4, 5, and 7 examine in various ways the data from a 9-state study, basing their analyses in theoretical and conceptual frameworks related to gender. Microfinance in Russia: Broadening Access to Finance for Micro and Small Entrepreneurs $8.98 In Russia, small-scale entrepreneurship has emerged in response to the collapse of state-ownership and unemployment in the early 1990s. Small businesses typically lack adequate collateral and credit history, making them "unbankable" by the mainstream financial sector. To fund their businesses, micro-entrepreneurs are forced to rely on funds from family and friends, or money lenders.Microfinance institutions of four types have emerged to meet the unfulfilled financing needs of micro-entrepreneurs: commercial banks, specialized NGO-type microfinance institutions, membership-based institutions (such as rural cooperatives and credits unions), and public funds. All four types have enjoyed significant growth in Russia in the past five years, but the industry is still at an early stage of development. Demand appears to far outweigh supply.’Microfinance in Russia’ provides an overview of microfinance in Russia to date, presenting industry trends and identifying key challenges to sustainable growth of the industry. |

The Illusions of Entrepreneurship: The Costly Myths That Entrepreneurs, Investors, and Policy Makers Live by $16.48 There are far more entrepreneurs than most people realize. But the failure rate of new businesses is disappointingly high, and the economic impact of most of them disappointingly low, suggesting that enthusiastic would-be entrepreneurs and their investors all too often operate under a false set of assumptions. This book shows that the reality of entrepreneurship is decidedly different from the myths that have come to surround it. Scott Shane, a leading expert in entrepreneurial activity in the United States and other countries, draws on the data from extensive research to provide accurate, useful information about who becomes an entrepreneur and why, how businesses are started, which factors lead to success, and which predict a likely failure. "The Illusions of Entrepreneurship" is an essential resource for everyone who has dreamed of starting a new business, for investors in start-ups, for policy makers attempting to facilitate the formation and survival of new businesses, and for researchers interested in the economic impact of entrepreneurial activity. Scott Shane offers research-based answers to these questions and many others: – Why do people start businesses?- What industries are popular for start-ups?- How many jobs do new businesses create?- How do entrepreneurs finance their start-ups?- What makes some locations and some countries more entrepreneurial than others?- What are the characteristics of the typical entrepreneur?- How well does the typical start-up perform?- What strategies contribute to the survival and profitability of new businesses over time? |

In this ethnography of the globalization process, Lynn A. Meisch looks at how participation in the global economy has affected Otavalo identity and culture since the 1970s. Drawing on nearly thirty years of fieldwork, she covers many areas of Otavalo life, including the development of weaving and music as business enterprises, the increase in tourism to Otavalo, the diaspora of Otavalo merchants and musicians around the world, changing social relations at home, the growth of indigenous political power, and current debates within the Otavalo community over preserving cultural identity in the face of globalization and transnational migration. Refuting the belief that contact with the wider world inevitably destroys indigenous societies, Meisch demonstrates that Otavalos are preserving many features of their culture while adopting and adapting modern technologies and practices they find useful. |

Keepers at Home: Biblically-Based Home and Personal Management $19.48 Designed as an individual or group Bible Study, Keepers at Home brings the reader to first understand her position in Christ and how that can turn the most mundane task into service to God and others. Market Women: Black Women Entrepreneurs: Past, Present, and Future $32.48 In stark contrast to popular belief, women of the African Diaspora have engaged in economic and leadership activities throughout the course of history. Black women around the world draw from a tradition of thousands of years of strategies that have enabled them to face and conquer the challenges of life as women of color. And yet today, black women are marginalized by an economic and financial community still dominated by white men. In "Market Women," educator, activist, and entrepreneur Cheryl Smith sets the record straight, applying insights from a variety of fields to trace the roots of black women’s entrepreneurship, as it is currently practiced in the United States. Featuring in-depth interviews with 19 present-day entrepreneurs (in ventures as diverse as catering, bookselling, millinery, and construction), Smith reveals an approach to business that is based on personal relationships, pooling of resources, a sense of humor, apprenticeship and mentoring, and strong mother-daughter bonds that defy traditional definitions of business success, wealth creation, and power. In the process she gives voice to a long-disenfranchised group whose struggles and triumphs in business illuminate universal themes that transcend race and gender. The result is a rich and unique study of business from a fresh and eye-opening perspective and an inspiring account of achieving success against tremendous odds. |

How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas $9.83 An In Search of Excellence for social change, showing how ordinary people are having extraordinary success in solving the world’s most pressing social problemsWhat business entrepreneurs are to the economy, social entrepreneurs are to social change. They are, writes David Bornstein, the driven, creative individuals who question the status quo, exploit new opportunities, refuse to give up-and remake the world for the better. How to Change the World tells the fascinating stories of these remarkable individuals-many in the United States, others in countries from Brazil to Hungary-providing an In Search of Excellence for the nonprofit sector. In America, one man, J.B. Schramm, has helped thousands of low-income high school students get into college. In South Africa, one woman, Veronica Khosa, developed a home-based care model for AIDS patients that changed government health policy. In Brazil, Fabio Rosa helped bring electricity to hundreds of thousands of remote rural residents. Another American, James Grant, is credited with saving 25 million lives by leading and ‘marketing’ a global campaign for immunization. Yet another, Bill Drayton, created a pioneering foundation, Ashoka, that has funded and supported these social entrepreneurs and over a thousand like them, leveraging the power of their ideas across the globe. These extraordinary stories highlight a massive transformation that is going largely unreported by the media: Around the world, the fastest-growing segment of society is the nonprofit sector, as millions of ordinary people-social entrepreneurs-are increasingly stepping in to solve the problems where governments and bureaucracies have failed. How to Change the World shows, asits title suggests, that with determination and innovation, even a single person can make a surprising difference. |
