i want to open a small take-away food business in my garage at home. but is this allowed in new zealand? what are the rules? what is a good website that has tips etc for someone wanting to start food/restaurant business in new zealand? thanks

Your best bet is to visit your local council. Each council have differing rules. I suspect as long as your premises are suitable setup for food preparation (no concrete floor, has to be lino/tiles etc…).

Have a look at biz.org.nz or business.govt.nz also your local Chamber of Commerce.

You will need a food handlers certificate as well.
